Sovaldi is an antiviral medicine used to treat Hepatitis C virus (HCV). It prevents the HCV cells to multiply in the body. Sovaldi is sometimes used in people who also have HIV, liver cancer and are going to have a liver transplant. This medicine is not a treatment for HIV or AIDS.
Sovaldi must be given in combination with other antiviral treatment medicine and should not be used alone. It is usually given in combination with ribavirin with or without peg interferon alfa.
Recommendation:
The recommended dosage is to take 400mg once a day with or without food. The recommended regimen and treatment duration for SOVALDI combination therapy is provided in below Table.

Dose of ribavirin is weight-based (<75 kg = 1000 mg and ≥75 kg = 1200 mg). The daily dose of ribavirin is administered orally in two divided doses with food. Patients with renal impairment (CrCl ≤ 50 mL/min) require ribavirin dose reduction; refer to ribavirin prescribing information.
Precautions:
Ribavirin can cause birth defects or death in an unborn baby. Do not use sofosbuvir with ribavirin if you are pregnant, or if you are a man and your female sexual partner is pregnant. Use at least 2 effective forms of non- hormonal birth control while using these medicines together and for at least 6 months after treatment ends.
